Make your own paper cd case

Interesting little web app. They even have a database of cases that others have made, in case you have the same album.

The anti-starbucks

I just read this really interesting article about being #2 in the market. The conventional wisdom is to beat the market leader at their own game. But in the case of a really dominant market leader, any attempt to copy them is going to fall flat. Like in the coffee shop business. Starbucks is so big, that all other nice coffee shops are just like them.

So how do you challenge the market leader? By being their polar opposite. Jotogo is a fast, friendly, cheerful, drive-by coffee shop. No free wifi and rainforest music here! I just wish there was a location near me . . . .

Music and Copyright web site

Someone emailed me this link, and it seems to have very easy-to-understand information about copyrights and music. I need to really check it out, so stay tuned.

John Gilmore's suit against the government

I haven't written about it, but I've been following Gilmore v Ashcroft for the past year or so.

Recently, the Post-Gazette posted a really good article about John Gilmore's suit against the government. He refuses to show ID to fly inside the country, and the airlines won't let him on the plane. They say the law requires us to see your ID, but the law is secret.

The whole story is very interesting, and is exactly the sort of important case that most people are oblivious to.

Make:

Yeah, it's been awhile. This blog has been slow, mostly because I ran out of time and things to say. There didn't seem to be a reason to rant about the lousy politics, or make snide comments about the failures and foibles of our society.

Similarly, I haven't come across anything really funny or unusual.

So I'm going to ease back into blogging by mentioning sites and things that I don't want to forget -- and Make Magazine is the best way to start anew. It's a new magazine with lots of D.I.Y. projects and hacks. Basically stuff that I'll never do, probably don't have the ability to pull off, but wish that I could.

It's totally a magazine that fellow blogger MD should get. If I remember his birthday this year maybe I'll get him a subscription.

#2 Dinner Please,

Diners feel a little flushed after eating here, but they sure do love the special ingredient in the coffee.

Sometimes you just can't make this stuff up.
