Could You Have Passed the 8th Grade in 1895?

I would absolutely flunk it.

This is the eighth-grade final exam from 1895 from Salina, KS. USA.
It was taken from the original document on file at the Smoky Valley
Genealogical Society and Library in Salina, KS and reprinted by the
Salina Journal.

This is unbelievable -- it sounds like fiction. Apparently, this guy is an "expert black magician", whatever that means, and he kills people. I wonder if he does birthday parties :-)

Shut down someone's Hotmail account

Apparently, the Hotmail abuse team automatically shuts down accounts when they are accused of sending spam.

In this article they check out that claim, and shut down accounts that have never even sent a single email.

How nice of the folks at Hotmail.

Today's Front Pages

This is awesome -- it shows you the front pages of newspapers from around the world. It has a nice little rollover feature so when you scroll over a paper it shows you the cover and where it's from.

You can really see what makes the headlines worldwide. I think I'll be visiting this one frequently.

Did you favorite pet recently die?

Even grieving pet owners have a place on the internet. From petloss.com you can send pet loss sympathy cards, read articles on guilt, mourning, join chats, post a eulogy, etc.

So much for simply sending them to Doggy Heaven . . . .

Solving the Rubik's Cube

I don't know where my Rubik's cube is anymore, but I used to be able to solve one side and two layers. I was pretty impressed with that.

Achelmist Matt has directions for the regular cube, and the other variations like the bigger one and the pyramid. It's worth a look.

How did Palm reinvent their image to Palmone without losing customers

This article goes into a bit of detail on how Palm targeted their two audiences, Home and Business, and rebranded their company.

This is a really good piece, and I wish there was a longer case study.

One in three Dutch men would choose watching soccer over wife's birthday

Canadian Press

Friday, June 04, 2004

AMSTERDAM (AP) - Marriage counsellors may do brisk business in the Netherlands during the upcoming European Championships.

A recent poll shows one in three Dutch men think watching their national team on television play at the Euro2004 games in Portugal is more important than celebrating their wife's birthday.

Male respondents said either their spouses should watch the game too, or that any birthday party should be postponed until afterward. Women were not asked.

The poll of 400 men was sponsored by the Dutch broadcaster KRO and carried out by research company Intomart.

ART. Shave my beard. Design my face like Wooly Willy

While stuck in traffic on the BQE this afternoon I listened to this weird artist talk about this beard-shaving item on eBay. Apparently, it is for real. If you win, you can shave his beard into design you want. The page has ideas from the artist, plus people who have bid. It's worth checking out">

Even funnier is the link he has in there to something called The World Beard Championships> which has hilarious pictures.

It makes me sad that I can't grow a beard yet :-)

PDF995 -- Great free PDF utilitity

I just came across a great little utility to create PDF files. It installs a virtual printer, which "prints" your document as a PDF. And it's free!

I'm going to check out some of the other programs that Software 995 has released.
