The Memory Hole > Justice Department Censors Supreme Court Quote
Because of "National Security" the Justice Department is allowed to redact some of the ACLU's court filings in their battle over the Patriot Act before they are published.
You would expect the redactions to black out names of informants, security statistics, tecniques, etc. But nope. They blacked out this quote from the Supreme Court:
"The danger to political dissent is acute where the Government attempts to act under so vague a concept as the power to protect 'domestic security.' Given the difficulty of defining the domestic security interest, the danger of abuse in acting to protect that interest becomes apparent."
Ironically, this is exactly what the problem is. It's a power grab under the rubric of 'National Security.'
